Hikvision Bring Smarter Security with Artificial Intelligence

Hangzhou Hikvision Digital Technology Co., Ltd. (Hikvision), the world’s leading provider of innovative security products and solutions, recently embarked on an AI Tour across 40 countries spanning Asia, Africa, Middle East, Oceania, and Latin America. In the tour’s stop in the Philippines, Hikvision showcased AI innovations covering AI Cloud architecture, AI technologies, AI products, and other vertical solutions.

In today’s digital age, Artificial intelligence (AI) has begun to revolutionize how we live, work and play. AI is offering businesses the prospect of increased productivity and innovation, while at the same time also enabling society to help solve some of its most persistent challenges -- like disease, natural disasters, and security.

Ray Wu, General Manager of Hikvision

“As AI becomes more common and more powerful, deep learning will soon become the foundational technology for the security industry. AI will strengthen critical security efforts in every sphere, with new machine learning techniques giving CCTV cameras the ability to spot troubling behavior without human supervision,” said Ray Wu, General Manager of Hikvision.

Deep learning is the next level of AI development. It is beyond machine learning where supervised classification of features and patterns are set into algorithms. Rather, deep learning incorporates unsupervised or “self-learning” principles. “Hikvision is building deep learning into its own analytics algorithms. The result of multi-layer learning and extensive data collection is enhanced accuracy and improved analytics. And this applies to vehicle and human recognition,“ explained Mr. Wu.

Based in Hangzhou, China, Hikvision is a pioneer in intelligent video surveillance and has created diversified products and solutions that utilize AI to address today’s modern challenges. In Hikvision’s AI tour, the company introduced several product models equipped with deep learning algorithms:

  • EXIR Flexible PanoVu Network Camera - This camera features 1/2.7" progressive scan CMOS sensors and four lenses with each lens supporting 1080p resolution at 30fps. A compression of up to H.265+ saves bandwidth and storage space. The EXIR is capable of 6 behavior analyses as well as 4 exception detections.
  • PanoVu PT Series 2MP + 2MP Target Capture Camera - This camera is able to capture distant images as well as close-up images with the integration design of distant view camera and tracking PTZ camera. This series can be widely used in situations where wide monitoring range and high definition are required, such as the entrance or exit of an airport, park, or station.
  • 2MP 25× IR Network Speed Dome - The speed dome is a DarkfighterX series camera that adopts the patented dual-sensor design to process color and brightness independently, and outputs one full-color image. It is equipped with deep-learning-based target classification algorithms for auto-tracking and perimeter protection.
  • Facial Recognition Server - Powered by deep learning technology, the server incorporates algorithms for identity confirmation and support for up to 1 million blacklisted targets. It is compatible with third-party cameras and meets varied scenario requirements, including shopping malls and public squares.
  • LPR Camera - Powered by Hikvision’s deep learning AI algorithm, this camera can identify more than 6 types of Philippine license plate numbers, including both private and public utility vehicles, at 90% accuracy. Hikvision is dedicated to optimizing its LPR algorithm and expects to up its accuracy to 95% by 2019.

Hikvision has introduced a series of products that can accurately detect, recognize, and analyze human, vehicle, and object features and behavior, and can be widely used in indoor and outdoor scenarios. “With AI, CCTV cameras now have the digital brains to match their eyes, letting them analyze live video with no humans necessary. AI is a game-changer, and we’re seeing firsthand how that technology can be used to guard against theft and improve security,” said Evelyn Ativo, Product Group Head of Iontech Inc., one of the key players in the Information Technology distribution industry in the Philippines.

IP Converge Data Services, Inc. #DiscoverDigital 2018 Game Changing Nature of Productivity Applications

Local cloud services pioneer IPC (IP Converge Data Services, Inc.) opened its digital transformation seminar series this year with an insightful discourse on how productivity applications are changing the workplace for the better.

IPC Director for Marketing and Digital Innovation Niño Valmonte encourages business reps to find new and better ways to improve office productivity.
Dubbed as ‘Business over Beers,’ the first of IPC’s #DiscoverDigital series for 2018 was recently held at ASPACE Greenbelt, Makati. The event gathered more than 40 business representatives -- whose core competencies range from Information Technology, Media, Finance, General Trade, and Professional Services to discuss how cloud-based solutions like Google Maps, Google Chrome and Chrome devices, and G Suite can help boost office productivity, communication and collaboration.

Google works far more than just its search engine and email feature. Google Maps, for instance, aids in brand awareness and market research. It helps increase the business’ visibility online by managing its search ranking, as well as present data, locate mobile teams in real-time, and see how visitors use the maps’ functionalities.

Google Chrome provides organizations with advanced tools for a fast and secure web browsing experience, while its Chrome devices are managed and configured in the cloud and can take different forms -- from a conventional laptop, to a small box that plugs into any modern monitor, to a tiny device that plugs directly into an HDMI port on a screen. On the other hand, G Suite is a set of intelligent apps that can help employees share and work on documents at the same time, input data and create presentations, as well as interact with other employees.

Niño Valmonte, IPC’s Director for Marketing & Digital Innovation emphasized that “In the spirit of game changing, we came up with this live sitcom-type demo to show clients that, just like veering away from the usual events with product-centric slide presentations, there is a different and better way of getting work done faster, smarter, and easier. Optimum workplace productivity and operational efficiency is possible through Google’s G Suite, Maps API and various Chrome devices.”

With this activity, IPC invited businesses for a collaboration to use applications from Google Cloud, and see how these can improve the business.

IPC’s #DiscoverDigital campaign is composed of various activities that share the latest innovations, trends, and best practices that are shaping the world of business IT. These are addressed to empower Filipino enterprises and organizations, whether large or SMEs to keep ahead with the digital changes of the times.

To register for IPC’s #DiscoverDigital events, visit http://www.ipc.ph/discoverdigital and follow IPC on Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter.

Counter DDoS Attacks with IPC DDoS Mitigation Strategy

According to IPC (IP Converge Data Services, Inc.), the country’s pioneer DDoS Mitigation service provider, Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks increased 43% percent to 34,000 attacks in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, citing a report by its partner Nexusguard, global leader in DDoS mitigation.

The largest increase was seen in Hong Kong, where attacks rose an astonishing 57%. China, which saw a 50% increase in attacks, is the number one target in the region. According to the report, over the course of a month a Chinese website was attacked 41 times. The Philippines on the other hand is one of the countries who experienced the least DDoS attacks, together with Indonesia and Malaysia.

IPC strongly recommends that businesses to be prepared by updating and strengthening their security systems. “The currently low numbers of the Philippines should not be taken as a signal to be complacent. Instead, the huge increase of DDoS attacks in the region and the world should be a wake-up call to businesses as we become more and more digitally active,” said Niño Valmonte, Director for Product Management & Marketing of IPC.

“Almost every company is going digital these days and the more that this trend continues, the more cybercriminals will try to access your network. Once your company becomes digital, it is imperative to implement highly effective data security measures,” added Valmonte.

The report also revealed an alarming increase in public attacks. “We expect the upward trend in the frequency of attacks to continue this year, especially with more attention to the Summer Olympics and political dispute in the APAC region,” said Terrence Gareau, chief scientist at Nexusguard. “And as Pokémon Go gradually launches across the Asian market, Nexusguard analysts expect attack groups will launch more public attacks. This activity increases visibility and positioning as DDoS-for-hire services, the popularity of which we noted from the consistent time durations this quarter.”

Attacks on the Network Time Protocol (NTP) dominated 90% of the attack types in the region, a stark contrast from the global distribution which experienced only 46% of this type of attack. The NTP is a protocol used for clock synchronization that is used by machines connected to the Internet to set their clocks accurately. Once attacked, hackers can gain access to hundreds of computers, depending on how many the NTP has interacted with. The quarter also saw the increased weaponization of ransomware within DDoS tools as a new “fad” for propagating home infections.

The solution to counter these attacks is a sound DDoS mitigation strategy. IPC is the first and only DDoS Mitigation service provider in the Philippines with round the clock DDoS attack monitoring and in-country attack mitigation for local enterprises and institutions. Branded as “inCAST” or In-Country Attack Scrubbing Tactics, the facility uses state-of-the-art equipment, manned by DDoS mitigation specialists so customers are assured of protection from looming attacks.

IP Converge on Going Digital, Consumerization of IT, Growth Engines for SMEs

“There are over 95,000 small to medium enterprises in the country, with each and every one having the potential to grow and compete on a global scale. With a wide assortment of online tools now within reach, there is no better time to be an SME than today,” said Reynaldo Huergas, President of IPC (IP Converge Data Services, Inc.), a local cloud services and data center pioneer.

According to data from the research agency We Are Social, the Philippines harbors an Internet penetration of 44 percent. For businesses, this translates to the opportunity to engage almost half the total population via the Internet, and ultimately, cultivate huge potential for growth.

Filipinos are mobile, with about 32 million active mobile Internet users. This makes going digital and embracing the consumerization of IT, more critical than ever. Enterprises need to reach their customers via various channels such as social media, email and mobile. “People want information in real time and if they can’t get it from you, they’ll get it from your competitors. Business is lost,” said Huergas.

Huergas said that 2016 is also the time to tap big data and analytics. “Big data analytics can give valuable insights about your customers and target market. In essence, it uses statistics to understand customer behavior which allows for more effective campaigns and product or service developments that help achieve optimum results.”

Going digital also requires businesses and their employees to be mobile. They must be able to work remotely, from wherever they are to ensure that operations go on no matter what. For instance, businesses can maximize Google Apps for Work to help them communicate (via Gmail, Calendar, Hangouts, etc.), store (via Drive), and collaborate (via Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc.) with one another. Additionally, there are cloud-based products like Salesforce.com CRM that help businesses in customer relationship management that will allow them to achieve and maintain leadership and profitability.

“Moreover, the World Wide Web has long opened the channels to access international markets. With social media and a myriad of available digital tools, local enterprises can overcome geographical boundaries and access new markets, particularly overseas,” Huergas added.

“There is definitely room for growth in e-commerce in the Philippines and the current data may well be the signal for enterprises to go digital this 2016. This is what our ‘Enterprise Sachet’ model addresses― we afford our entrepreneurs with the same capabilities as larger organizations through IT tools available at affordable, pay-as-you-use packages,” said Huergas.

According to Huergas, enterprises can sign up and pay for IPC’s cloud-based softwares online through major credit cards (MasterCard, Visa, AMEX), over-the-counter cash payments via Dragonpay or popular online payment provider Paypal through the cloud.com.ph portal.

“This is the time to adopt a digital frame of mind. From acquiring business leads to managing our own organizations, online tools have a significant role to play,” Huergas concluded.
