Cherry Mobile Rover: Anti-Weather?

We can't deny our country has always been hit by strong tropical cyclones that brings floods and power outages and some of our phones gets water damaged and can't last. Cherry Mobile might see this as an opportunity to introduce their heavy-duty waterproof smartphone - The Rover.

Courtesy of Facebook User Ron Roman.

As you can see just simplified specs with 3.5 inch Capacitive Display powered by 1.3GHz Dual-Core Processor running Android 4.2 Jellybean. You do have a 5MP Main Back camera and VGA (.3MP) Front Camera for optics. For connectivity, I assume you get the regular stuff WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS but that IR Blaster is another first for local brands (No world on data connection). Massive 3600mAh battery will surely endure days of on/off power. Dual-Sim so even when one network is out, you could always rely on the other. It is said it is waterproof but this should be seen and tested. Cost at 5,999.00 Pesos.

This phone is all set for emergencies that could withstand flood and rotating brownouts. It might not have what you want in a device but it does really cater to your basic smartphone need. Cherry Mobile should release this now with countless of typhoons and calamities battering the country with Rover on hand surely one can be prepared.

Specs Summary
Android 4.2 Jellybean
3.5 inch Capacitive Display
1.3GHz Dual-Core Processor
5MP Back Camera
VGA Front Camera

UnboxPH: Cherry Mobile Blaze 2.0

Official preview of the new Cherry Mobile Blaze 2.0 during podcast of UnboxPH this evening.

The Blaze 2.0  has a 5.7 Inch HD IPS Phablet powered by Mediatek MT6589 1.2 Quad Core, 1 GB Ram, and 4GB Internal Storage. It sports a 12MP rear and 3MP BSI Camera and has a 2500 mah Battery. Packaging includes headset and a Micro USB data cable. Antutu Benchmark at 12900

The UnboxPH Crew tried the USB-OTG but it failed to work. Many Viewers also reacted and commented "REDUNDANT" on the fact that there is the home physical button but there is also screen button that has the same function

Guess its is just a test unit but hopefully they would include USB-OTG and MHL functionality.
In my opinion, these features are requisites to call a smartphone a Phablet other than the screen size.

Update***
UnboxPh posted their Initial Review here

Here is the Box. As you can see it is BLAZE 2.0!

Front View

Looking at the App Drawer with Antutu and Google Drive... Hmmm thinks it is just test developer unit.

Look how thin it is at 9.9 mm thick. It looks kinda like Note II (haunting images of my fathers recently lost phone hahaha) or looks like a LG II Phablet.

Here is the "REDUNDANT" part!!!

The Back. It has a black matte finish. There 12MP BSI Rear Camera. Hmm I guess forget to ask them to test the flash, the Old Blaze has poor flash. The volume grills reminds me of Blaze 1 (Prize ko from Cherry Mobile Flare Up your Life Contest)

Benchmark Bar Chart. Since it is in the 13K level then it performs way better than Samsung Mega at only 8K.

Clearly Blaze 2.0 is a consumer-friendly alternative to Samsungs' Note and Mega Line and other high end brand. Priced at 9,499.00 yet no release date.

***Update:

Blaze 2.0 is HSPA+, well its not LTE because there is no chip yet offering LTE and Dual Sim functionality at the same time (so far I know). Well it fast but also depends on the data connection of your service provider in your area.

Antutu benchmark at 13231 - guess it updated the software since the unboxing. At that level it really trumps Galaxy Mega 5.8 Broadcom chip.

Blaze 2.0 screen is a Asahi's Scratch-RESISTANT glass but take note of the *light scratches"

Oh per facebook page of Cherry Mobile Northedsa (Berlein) it is now available at SM Megamall and SM North Edsa. The unit also has been sighted at cmkcellphones.com at 8,790

Thanks to UnboxPH Crew for introducing the unit.
