Samsung joins in the Digital Television (DTV) trend with their Philippine release of new Samsung Galaxy J2 DTV!

Samsung Galaxy J2 DTV like the original J2 comes with the modest of specification and follows the same simplistic design aesthetics but now comes with a built in TV Antenna that conveniently tuck away on the bottom right side.

Sports the same 4.7 qHD AMOLED Display giving you very vivid and rich visuals. It is powered by Samsung own Exynos 3475 with 1GB RAM and 8GB Internal Storage. You can expand storage via MicroSD slot. It did perform well and even got an Antutu Score of 23K mark. Oh it plays Pokemon GO although Augmented Reality (AR) Mode is Not Supported.

Camera features is same with the original with 5MP Rear Camera at f/2.2 aperture with LED Flash and 2MP Front camera. Same goes with connectivity as it is a Dual Sim Dual Standby handset as well as supports ultra fast LTE internet data connection while having the regular WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS. It is USB-OTG ready for using your flash drives and other usb peripherals.

Finally, we move on to its newest unique feature, Digital Television (DTV). This is the first Samsung device to carry one and introduced to the Philippine Market. This would let you watch you latest TV shows on the Go and will certainly compete with what local brands offer.

We got to try it via Demo Unit at SM North Edsa concept store. Simply just launch the MobileTV app, scan for channels and begin watching. The built in Antenna should help with the reception. You can also capture screen or record what you are watching. TS Format is the output of recorded stream. You also have option to listen via bluetooth. Parental controls are present so there is censorship when children use the DTV. DTV is Fullseg broadcast mode giving you high quality streams but also supports OneSeg or for convinience you could leave it at Automatic Mode.

Carries a 2000mAh battery which is just enough to last your hours of watching TV with its not so power hungry internals. If its not enough, then I assume you have a powerbank if not get one for heavy usage.

Samsung Galaxy J2 is still one best budget choice (their 2nd highest selling smartphone for 2016) under the Samsung lineup as it is portable, display rich, has lte and now with DTV, it is now more better. Samsung Galaxy J2 DTV might also eat a chunk from local brands offering such service. This is perfect smartphone for those who just want not to miss their favorite shows as well as made by trusted brand in mobile.

Samsung releases it budget Galaxy J2. Beautifully designed with rounded edges and faux leather back with chrome rim. It features a 4.7 qHD Super AMOLED Display with rich colors and blacks giving you better visuals for viewing movies and games.

Powering the device is Samsung own Exynos 3475 Quad-Core Processor with Mali-T720 GPU coupled with 1GB RAM and 8GB Internal Storage. A microSD card slot is available for storage expandability for up to 128GB. Which should run Android Lollipop with few hiccups.

As for optics just the basic here with its 5MP primary back camera with LED Flash and 2MP Front.

Asus Zenfone 2 Laser Specs, Price Philippines

Asus graciously lend us its new ZenFone 2 Laser ZE550KL.

At first glance, it looks like Zenfone 2 but with ZenFone 5 original back matte back cover. Some people commented that it looks like LG G3. The Zenfone 2 Laser is just as the same size as Zenfone 2 but shorter with by a hairline difference of .01 in height. Volume keys at the back but the LED Flash has been move to the side and with the addition of Laser Sensor.  Package includes Unit, Charger, Data Cable and Headset.

The Zenfone 2 Laser sports a large 5.5 inch HD IPS Display but still it is very handy due to its Arc back design. It is well protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 from pressure and scratches. I assure you its tough and scratch-resistant as I tested it out inside my pocket and bag full of keys coins and sharp objects.

There is a concentric-circle pattern on the front and on the keys that produce a tactile effect add charm to the beauty of Zenfone 2 Laser. You have to look closer to see the intricate workmanship done.

It's quick and fast even with only Quad-Core Snapdragon 410 Processor. This is credited to its 2GB RAM and 64bit architecture is well utilized with Android 5.0 Lollipop. Zenfone 2 Laser has 16GB internal storage with 10GB available for usable storage.  Here is Antutu Bencmark for your reference.

Not a gamer type of person but tried some common popular games like COC, Candy Crush, and Temple Run Series, the Zenfone 2 Laser did run those games without trouble or lag.

The Zen UI is clean, polish, organize, and customize-able. With Smart Group, it organizes your apps into folders according to function or category. You could also define the layout and theme of your Zenfone 2 Laser with downloadable theme and icon packs. Touch Gesture is very useful for quick action and deployment of app even when its on standby like writing C on screen to open camera app and take that momentous shot. The UI is also friend for all ages with Easy Mode and Kids Mode. There are also value added apps like Mini Movie, Photo Collage and more but we wished they made some apps optional to lessen bloatwares.

In terms of connectivity, it packs the regular setup with WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS. What I like on the Zenfone 2 Laser is its Dual SIM and supports LTE on both SIM but of course you can only use one data connection so if one network fails to deliver fast internet service, you could easily switch to use the other network connectivity. USB-OTG is supported so you could plug in your USB peripherals like usb flash drives.

In terms of camera, ZenFone Laser takes decent and sometimes it takes grainy shots great shots as with updated software. When it comes to closer subject it focuses at an instant and clearly capture detail as you can see on the photo sample 2 and 5. However when it comes to distance subjects, it need some time to adjust and a little assistance. In low light, it really does #SeeWhatOthersCantSee as you can see in the last picture when I tested it out with test subject inside box of no or little light. The Butterfly is seen in low light mode (left) and very detailed with Manual Mode (right). Laser focus is useful  when taking Macro Shots as seen in shot of 5 Peso Coin. The PixelMaster Camera offers various modes and options for more creative control including Manual Mode. With the review unit, seems the firmware was not updated and was not up to par with the Zenfone 2 Laser unit I tested during the #ZenFestival Launcing Event. The aperture size on the review unit registers at f2.65 while on the other one at f2.0. Asus Reps did assure me that the retail will come with updated firmware and will fix the issue and deliver even better outputs. Asus did update the firmware and now Laser takes stunning shots with improved focus and finally supports up to 32s shutter speed which is great for photographers and photography enthusiast.

Asus ZenFone Laser Low Light after Update.

Upon opening the back cover of the device, there lies 3000mAh Removable Battery. This should be good news for other people who prefers the removable setup to reset the device or carry an extra battery. It lasted us about 9 hours on 4G data connectivity mainly for Facebooking. When it comes to moderate usage it last nearly 2 days.

To conclude, the Zenfone 2 Laser takes cues from the success of Zenfone 2 with beautifully crafted design and aesthetics match with dependable hardware. Focus instantly with Laser Auto-Focus capturing your subjects in detail. Dual SIM Dual LTE lets you which data connection from one network to the other in a snap. Long Battery Life is also another plus point for Zenfone 2 Laser. For only 8,695 you get the 5.5 inch model. Will come in Black/White/Red/Silver/Gold.

There will be a 5 inch ZE500KL Model with similar internal hardware but at only 5 inch display, 8MP Back Camera and Battery at 2070mAh. Priced for 7,695 Pesos. Look here side by side 5 inch and 5.5 inch model.

Ohh Look what I stumbled on, Asus Zenfone Go!

This new Zenfone is Asus Latest entry level budget smartphones and takes . Comes in 5 inch 720p HD IPS Display. Under the hood is MediaTek MT6580 Quad-Core 1.3GHz Processor complimented with 2GB RAM. For its internal storage it comes in 8GB and 16GB models but if you need more storage the microSD card slot will be very helpful that supports up to 64GB.

For its camera, it is equipped with 8MP primary rear with F2.0 Aperture supported with LED Flash. On the front is a 2MP Fixed Focus camera for your selfies and video chats.

Regular set of connectivity features is available like WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS. For data connection, DC-HSPA+ Upload speed of 5.76 Download speed of 42 Mbps but it also depends on your network. It comes with Dual Micro SIM card and is Dual Stand By.

Battery is at only 2070mAh for which I guess you do need ZenPower for more juice.

Zenfone Go will be running Android 5.1 Lollipop with Asus Zen UI on top including value added applications.

Comes in colors of Black, White and Red

Seems just like Zenfone 5 with only Mediatek Chipset. It will be interesting compare it to Intel-toting Zenfones. Price at 5,995!
