IFA 2017 : LG V30 Flagship that has it all?

LG Electronics releases the latest iteration of its V Series - LG V30.

Combination of metal and glass, the new LG V30 is designed beautifully but constructed to last.  LG makes use of H-Beam structure, a construction technique  integrate the edge with a metal frame to enhance durability and makes for tensile strength. MIL-STD 810G or meets U.S. Department of Defense requirements for amazing durability. Heat pipe and a cooling pad is present to keep things cool inside. Has IP68 water and dust resistance certification. The front and back Corning Gorilla Glass 5 is curved all the way around the edge which gives it an "EDGIER" look.

LG V30 sports a 6 inch 18:9 QHD+ (2880 x 1440) OLED FullVision Display. This gives a entertainment-grade quality visuals further more the screen said to offers faster response time and so gets minimal afterimages and tearing. This is also attributed to Qualcomm Processor. Second Screen has been removed in place of new Always-on Display (AOD) feature and Floating Bar. Level up more on the visuals and pair it with VR as LG V30 is Google Daydream ready.

LG partnership with close partnership with B&O PLAY. LG V30 gets 32-bit Advanced Hi-Fi Quad DAC powered by ESS Technology’s SABRE ES9218P. Two new features are digital filters and sound presets. LG engineers studied the characteristics of popular tones and identified the best combination of sounds to create four optimal pre-programmed settings: enhanced, detailed, live and bass. LG gains another partner- MQA Ltd. that facilitates high resolution audio streaming and is now made available to consumers. LG V30 gets a set of earphones by B&O PLAY, also finely tuned for an optimal listening experience.

Dual Camera is here to stay as LG V30 is equipped with 16MP Standard Angle (F1.6 / 71°) Main Camera as well as a 13MP Wide Angle (F1.9/ 120°). Wide Angle lens said to be improved with two-thirds less edge distortion than in the V20. Crystal Clear Glass now serves protection for cameras which delivers more accurate colors and clearer images than a plastic lens. There is a new  Cine Video mode produces movies like a pro with  Cine Effect and Point Zoom features. Manual Mode gets new level of capability with Graphy letting you set presets such as white balance, shutter speed, aperture and ISO same as images found on Graphy Website. Main camera is supported by Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) and Hybrid Auto Focus. Front Camera is at 5MP Wide Angle (F2.2 / 90°).

LG V30 gets modern connectivity such as LTE-A, WiFi AC, Bluetooth 5.0 BLE and NFC. USB Type-C handles direct connectivity for charging, data and supports peripherals via USB-OTG.
Battery is at 3300mAh and supports Quickcharge 3.0 and Wireless Charging.

The V30 will become available to consumers in South Korea starting on September 21 and will be followed by key markets in North America, Asia, Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Will come in colorful set in Aurora Black, Cloud Silver, Moroccan Blue and Lavender Violet. LG V30+ will have limited availability in selected markets.

I really like the direction of LG for their flagship line. The produce beautifully crafted device but manage to make it solid and built to withstand wear and tear. They packed the LG V30 with FullVision Display, Snapdragon 835, Dual Rear High Resolution Cameras, HiFi Quad  Dac Audio, Future-proof Connectivity and IP68 Rating. They covered everything aspect from built, visuals, performance, optics, sound. Hopefully they manage to win back their customers and improve their after sales service.

Acer Swift 5 will be available in North America in December starting at $999; in EMEA in December starting at €1,099; and in China in November starting at ¥7,499.

For IFA 2017, Acer release their 360 devices with Holo360, Vision360 and Xtro360.

Holo360 is a all-in-one 360-degree camera that lets you capture, view and edit your output with its 3 inch Display.  Powered by by the Qualcomm Connected Camera Platform with its Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor to stitch videos in real-time and also supports  LTE connectivity for sharing your content.  Equipped with Panomorph optics certified by ImmerVision that lets you capture high resolution images with no distortion in 6.9K resolution and videos in 4K.  Runs on Android 7.1 which opens your doors to millions of applications and access social media to push your 360 video to your friends and followers.

Next is Vision 360 is said to be " World First 4K In-Car 360 Camera". Vision360 is mounted on the windshield, aligned with the driver’s eyes and also displays the vehicle’s current speed. So what you think? Holo360 is said to be available in North America in November at $429 bundled with a water-resistant case and  in EMEA in Q4 with prices starting at €349. No word yet for Vision360 and Xtro360.

Samsung Galaxy Note8 Quick Review Specs Price Philippines

Attended the Philippine launch of Samsung Galaxy Note8! Held a Samsung Music Hall at SM Aura, BGC last August 24, 2017. Finally, the Return of the Note.

Samsung seems to have put all their technologies and design into their latest flagship. Samsung Galaxy Note8 is tall, slim and sexy in aluminum metal plus curved front and back Gorilla glass 5.

Infinity display makes it way to the Galaxy Note 8 that will give you bigger screen  to work with. Sports a 6.3 inch at Quad HD+ Resolution Super AMOLED Display to provide a rich cinematic visuals as well as bigger canvass for  the improved SPen.

Looking inside, we find the latest Exynos 8895 Octa-Core Processor with Mali-G71 GPU that is supported with 6GB LPDDR4 RAM and will come in 64GB, 128GB and 256GB. If you need bigger storage then you can use the hybrid sim slot to act as microSD but sacrificing Dual Sim feature. We tested it via Antutu and gain a 175156 score and topped the charts. Well we expected this much to happen.

Samsung joins the Dual Camera bandwagon as the Galaxy Note 8. Two cameras - one is the main camera with standard angle (focal length 26mm) lens at 12MP at f/1.7 aperture with Dual Pixel Technology while the second one is also at 12MP but f/2.4 with focal length of 52mm which makes it a telephoto lens brings 2x optical zoom. Galaxy Note8  gains new tricks such as the Live Focus to get those smooth bokeh blurred background shots or control what to focus with Dual Capture. Ohh if you are technical, the f/1.7 sensor is same S5K2L2 found on the S8 but no word for the telephoto lens. Optical Image Stabilization for both lenses keeps things steady to avoid camera shake and blur. For your selfies and video chats, 8MP with Samsung S5K3H1 at f/1.7 aperture which guarantee you better outputs even in challenging lighting conditions. Video recording for rear camera is up to UHD while front camera is at QuadHD.

Well as you can see, outputs turn out better than expected event in harsh lighting conditions. Live Focus feature creates clean smooth bokeh (blur). To maximize its 18:9 screen, you can also take 18:9 outputs. The main camera is just same as S8 but the added telephoto is good for doing portraits with its focal length of 56mm. For wide angle or landscapes, better use the main camera.

What makes it Note,is its SPen. It gets improved with finer tip and more pressure sensitivity. Samsung also introduces new ways to communicate with Live Messages that lets you share customize animated text. Translate Text and Convert foreign currencies at an instant are some other improved SPen functions.

Galaxy Note8 also gets Bixby for which can now be enjoyed by most users with its global release. With Quick Commands, allows you to create a custom voice command to use in place of a sequence of one or more commands. Bixby also understands the way you actually speak, ask questions and make requests. Bixby is unique in that it is an intelligent interface built into the smartphone settings so that you can change phone options.Users can enable Bixby’s voice capabilities by pressing the Bixby button to begin onboarding. You can now activate Bixby by holding the dedicated button or by saying, “Hi, Bixby.” Try it!

IP68 certification for water and dust resiatannt is still present for the Galaxy Note8 as well as goes for its SPen. Other than that, you can also enjoy PC-like experience with Samsung Dex by docking it and project via external display and work with Multiple Apps at the same time. Runs latest Android Nougat 7.1.1

Although we were surprise that it gets a 3300mAh battery only but I guess this can be attributed to space for the SPen and for slimmer profile. Wireless Charging and Quick Charge is present.

Our thoughts? Samsung Galaxy Note8 is a solid flagship offering in terms of design, construction and features. Infinity display really compliments the Note as you have more working space or canvass with the use of your SPen. Dual Camera is another great addition to its arsenal as two lenses are better than one plus both lenses have OIS. However we are concern of lesser 3300mAh battery size compared to S8 Plus 3500mAh as the Note8 has bigger screen size and so may leave you less battery life. However, you could always adjust resolution to extend usage. Is the price tag justified? well for me yes as you do get the very best from Samsung with support of the latest features like Bixby, Dex and has IP68 certification. Some say you pay for the brand... well yes you pay for that too as Samsung is Top manufacturer in the world for mobile which give you assurance of quality and even after-service.

Asus Zenfone 4 Max 5.5 Quick Review Specs Price Philippines

At Asus Zenfone 4 Series launch, we got to have a brief hands-on with Asus Zenfone 4 Max.
The Zenfone 4 Max is slim and sexy considering the battery it packs. The 2.5D Glass and Metal Unibody adds a premium element to a budget friendly smartphone offering.

For its Display, it houses a 5.5 inch HD Display. Hey its High Definiation which should be enough for quality viewing pleasure. Paired it with Snapdragon 430 plus Adreno 505 Graphics, 3GB RAM and 32GB (22.5 Available for User) Internal Storage, this hardware setup can handle your apps, games and files at satisfying levels even on high settings.

Asus seems to be keen on taking the photography route as such they equipped their new Zenfone 4s with Dual-Camera setup. For Zenfone 4 Max, the main camera is at 13MP with a Omnivision 13855 Sensor with standard viewangle of 80-degree and aperture size of f/2.0. There is also a 120-degree wide angle camera at 5MP which uses Omnivision 5675 sensor at f/2.2 aperture. For front camera, a high resolution 8MP should do the trick for your selfies and video chats. But wait, we noticed that shutter speed is maxed at 1/3 sec compared to 32 sec shutter speed of the old Zenfone 3 Max. For manual and photography users, this should be a big downgrade as you will not be able to do long exposure shots with the stock camera. Hopefully Asus can bring the feature via software update. On the flip side, Beauty Live App is available for instant beautification.

It is also great to know that Asus has chosen to let go the hybrid sim tray for triple slot for two sim cards and a dedicated microSD slot. Just basic connectivity features here with WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS. Supports 4G LTE Cat 4 data connection for fast on-the-go internet. USB-OTG Is supported and Zenfone 4 Max may act as a powerbank with its 5000mAh and  reverse charging feature. With that size of power paired with less power-hunger hardware, it will last you a day or two of moderate use.
