Cherry Mobile Flare 3 - Phablet ng Bayan?

Here is the Big Reveal!!! Cherry Mobile Outs Flare 3 "Phablet ng Bayan"

The New Flare 3 sports a bigger 5 inch OGS Display with qHD resolution and scratch resistance. Powering the device is 1.3Ghz Quad-Core Mediatek MT6582 Processor with Mali-400 MP2 GPU and comes with 8GB Internal Storage and 1GB RAM. Micro Expansion slot is available that supports up to 64GB.

The usual connectivity are present wiith the device - WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS. HSPA+/3G caters to your on-the-go data connectivity needs. Not much change here.

For its optics, it is equipped with 8MP BSI Primary back camera paired with LED Flash. 3MP for front camera for selfies and video chats.

You also have variety of color choices - black, blue, white, grey, and red that you could mix and match with your #ootd or personality.

Comes with 1980mAh battery pack.

Cherry Mobile Flare 3 is great budget option that is suited for those who are looking for big phones or to say a phablet experience. Chipset and hardware is very much tested for quality performance. It is also great for adding more internal storage. 8MP/3MP is decent though no word if special sensor is involved. Hopefully they improved and optimized the battery for it is major criticism of Flare series (good thing for modders). For 3,999.00, it feels as if we are back to the glory days of Flare first release. Cheers to Cherry Mobile!

MyPhone Infinity Lite - Pocket Friendly HD Octa-Core

Infinity goes cheap... MyPhone brings out cheaper Octa-Core with Infinity Lite. Was expecting this from the get go with release of other brands (Arc Mobile Velocity, Cherry Mobile Magnum S) to compete growing Xiaomi threat.

The Infinity sports a respectable 4.7 inch 720p HD IPS Display, this size will ensure a very pocket-able device easy to carry around. Powered by 1.4GHz Octa-Core Mediatek MT6592M Processor and Mali450-MP4 GPU coupled with 1GB and 8GB Internal Storage, it wont be a push-over either. Running Android 4.4.2 KitKat, you have efficient and optimize OS.

Standard connectivity is assured with WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS. Stable HSPA+/3G got your data-needs covered (network dependent).

With regards to optics, it features 8MP primary back camera and 5MP front camera. This setup should be decent enough for your regular captures and video recording plus very detailed selfies and video chats. Yet NO sign of LED Flash.

Battery life is just a measly 2000mAh. This is quite worrisome for it packs an HD display and octa-core which are power hungry. For not so heavy user, it will last the lay or two but for gamers might I suggest a powerbank.

We welcome MyPhone Inifinity Lite in the shift to more powerful phones at budget price. The Octa-Core Mediatek chipset is very capable running fluid Android KitKat experience and smooth gaming experience. HD quality screen is also another plus point for detailed viewing experience. 8MP is the next industry standard but that 5MP will surely boost its popularity amongst selfie-addicts. However, with so much powerful hardware that will be too much to handle for its low-capacity battery. Priced at 7,999.00, it should compete for the title of Octa-Core ng Bayan but with an early release and MyPhone popular branding it is king for now.

Update: Antutu Benchmark
Courtesy of Facebook User Jaylord Nicolas from MyPhone Infinity Lite Group
Antutu Score is Great and should be competitive with the upcoming Xiaomi Redmi Note (Not Enhanced). I have expected this much with Mediatek MT6592M with comparison to Lenovo A850+ with MT6592 that scored 28K. It may be Lite by name but still it is a powerhouse of a device.

It seems it also offered by another brand in the form of Micromax Canvas Knight Cameo A290.

Xiaomi unleashes its Mi4

The Mi4 is beautifully crafted with combination precision made steel frame and strong polycarbonate plastic for its back. Materials used is definitely for a flagship phone and comes with room for customization.

Its Display sports 5 inch 1080p resolution made by either Sharp / Japan Display Inc. (JDI) and employs OGS lamination technology. No word on whether it has Corning Gorilla Glass 3 but I am pretty sure it does pack a shatter proof on top. If you should know, OnePlus One smartphone also has JDI Display though TOL (Touch On Lens) is used which is almost same as OGS but is more resilient and tough.

Under the hood, it packs Snapdragon 801 processor with 3GB RAM and 16/64GB eMMC 5.0 Internal Storage. The hardware setup is to say made to perform to optimal levels with only Full HD to work with, it may beat benchmarks scores of some QHD handsets. (See Benchmarks)

With 13MP (Sony IMX214) and 8MP (Sony IMX219) Sony Sensor Camera combo with f1.8 aperture will do wonders and provide better picture and video output. Supports 4K Video recording and real-time HDR plus Wide-Angle Selfies. Single LED Flash at the back for lighting support.

Wide range of connectivity features that comes the usual WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS. Xiaomi is future-proofing its devices with NFC and the latest addition IR Blaster to control multitudes of your consumer electronics. USB-OTG also provides another venue for added connectivity of devices for storage, inputs and external display (MHL Support).

Battery is at 3080mAh that supports quick charging at 9V/1.2A or 5V/2A.

Customization? here are just sample of back covers.

Accessorize with the New MiBand...

MIUI 6 is also coming... It is said to be another giant leap from MIUI 5.

Xiaomi really covers every aspect of Smartphone experience. High Quality, Sharp, and built-to-last Display with awesome color rendering and brightness. To Powerful and Efficient Internal hardware with abundance of memory and storage. Brilliant Optics that captures amazing output picture or video. Future Proof Connectivity choices that interacts with everyday living of consumers. Battery that last and charge fast. Xiaomi offers more for its Mi4 smartphone not only to those who have money to spent but to those consumer that deserves better for their hard earn money. It is a beginning of new revolution in technology for all.

It is estimated to cost 14,000.00 Pesos (16GB) and 16,000.00 Pesos (64GB)

HTC One E8 Plastic still Flagship

Look what we have here: HTC ONE E8 appears online.

The device is all plastic that deviates from original One iron-clad materials and at a glance, it kinda looks like Moto X. Sporting a 5 inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) Super LCD3 with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 which gives it ~441 ppi pixel density for crisp and clear details as well as vibrant and beautiful colors for great viewing pleasures.

Powering the device is Snapdragon 801 clocked at 2.5GHz with Adreno 330 GPU - Welcome to the world of high end phones. Performance is undeniably unquestionable. Memory and storage is also ample with 2GB RAM and 16GB Internal storage. If that's not enough, microSD expansion slot gives you more that supports up to 128GB.

Say goodbye to UltraPixels, HTC has abondoned its experiment and now has preceded with a 13MP primary back camera with single LED Flash and for its front it sticks to 5MP wide-angle camera.

HTC One E8 wont be complete with its wide range of connectivity features such as ultra-super speed LTE data connectivity. NFC is also available for one-touch fast connection and future-proof for e-payments. You do have the usual Dual-Band WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS.

Sense 6 UI on top of Android 4.4 KitKat, you up to date with fluid and highly optimized software plus other additional features like BlinkFeed and Motion Launch from one of the most noteworthy UI from HTC. Sounds is great enough with its dual stereo front speakers but with Boomsound it takes another level.

Battery life comes from 2600mAh energy pack which is pretty much decent, very efficient and optimized.

The HTC One E8 is more off a plastic version of HTC One though even with the change in materials, you still get that flagship experience. Powerful chipset, abundant memory and storage options ensures the best processing of an updated operating system. The best of sound and connectivity is also present. Out with the UltraPixels and goes up to 13MP/5MP optics. HTC still presents its best with the ONE E8.

The device sports a 5.5 inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) Display by apan Display Inc. (JDI) which produces best known displays and employs Touch On Lens (TOL) that eliminates the distance between the  display panel and touch sensor but more shatterproof than that of OGS.

It also employs 16GB/64GB EMMC 5 for speedy write/read speed for storage plus 3GB of RAM. Hardware with this caliber, geeks will go crazy over it.

GReview: Lenovo A850+ Performance and Endurance

With the arrival of Xiaomi in the Philippine Market, competition get stiffer and so innovation prosper. Comes many release of newnproducts packing octa-core at dirt cheap prices and Lenovo might follow suit with update on their A850, which is A850+.

It is not yet available in the market but got mine shipped from Hong Kong. Now let see whats inside...

The usual you get the Lenovo A850+ unit, 2500mAh Battery, propriety headset, data cable and charger. You do get the manual and warranty cards but in my case its in Chinese haha.

The smartphone is made out of plastic all over but when you take a closer look and sun light you get shimmering effect. The silver lining adds nice accent but also provides support to hands for good grip. Port are all situated at the top and on the right side is the volume rocker and power/lock button. AT the back is the your dedicated camera and flash as well as speakers by the side. This phone is big but sexy at 150 x 77 x 8.9 mm and light to handle at 162g.

The A850+ sports a 5.5 inch qHD (940 x 540 pixels) IPS Display. The resolution is a bit downer but it really helps in performance and battery life. Powering the device is 1.7GHz Octa-Core Mediatek MT6592 Processor (1.4GHz MT6592M on other markets) with Mali450-MP4 GPU. Only 1GB RAM and 4GB internal storage here to cut down on cost. This hardware setup seems to work to its advantage consuming less energy and less work for the processor.

Performance? as Antutu would put it, "Welcome to the World of High-End Smartphones." Even though it runs on Android Jelly Bean, the A850+ is very fluid and smooth. I have not experience any lag whatsoever even tried Dead Trigger 2 at high performance. Oh by the way, the built in Power Saver app limits the cores so what more if I go for full performance.

The phone is Dual-Sim/ Dual Standby which uses regular size sim cards. Connectivity features include WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, and HSPA+. One thing though, Maps 8.1.1 crashes and cannot seem to pin point my location without GPS ON. Lenovo ShareIt app is very remarkable it makes use of WiFi direct to transmit to other device at record fast speeds and remote access to computer is supported.

The Lenovo Launcher offers very much customization and other value-added features. It is more like iOS, All apps are on your homescreen and you do get to set folders to get organized. Settings has three tabs Common, Character (Lenovo) and System. There are Notifications pop-ups too to always keep you inform. Smart connectivity, automatically switch if wifi/data is active or not.

Moving to optics, it is equipped with just basic 5MP back camera wiith LED Flash and VGA Front. Here are samples:

Photos taken are decent enough. Surprised that I get very small details when it comes to macro shot though can't say the same for landscapes with details blurred out so much. Output in lowlight is better and the LED Flash does provide fair amounts of lighting. The front? horrible, nuff said. Supports HD video recording. Update: Upon switching to new Lenovo SnapIt Camera App output has tremendously improved including vga front camera so the app actually address one of this phone weakness.

One other thing that this phone excel is its battery life. With only 2500mAh, I thought it would run out fast with octa-core but it has proven me wrong. Data, WiFi, and Games lasted me nearly 2 days tops. On standby, this should give you days of usage and more with Ultra-Saving Mode.

To wrap up, the Lenovo A850+ may have its short comings but with high-end grade performance, days of battery endurance it is surely a Plus. Lenovo Apps also provide a new experience in terms of connectivity and camera. For a phone for 6,700.00 pesos it is a clear winner, no wonder it is selling like hot cakes in other markets. If I were Lenovo, I would certainly make it official to put a Plus sign on A850.

Look what we have here. Lazada seems to offer the product as import.

Cherry Mobile Magnum S - Super Update

From Arc Mobile Velocity to Cherry Mobile own take on Octa-Core for Less?

Seems change has come fast and now tech brands are updating their phone line up to counter the threat that is Xiaomi.

Cherry Mobile is introducing the successor of their Magnum line - Magnum S. It sports a 5 inch HD IPS Display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3. Powering the device is a 1.7GHz Octa-Core Processor which is for sure Mediatek MT6592 with Mali450-MP4 GPU coupled with 1GB RAM and 16GB Internal Storage. Well its not FHD but with this hardware setup is conducive for efficiency but i doubt that there will be an expansion microSD slot.

Good news to selfie-addicts it packs an 8MP front camera with LED Flash! Rear camera is no push over either with 18MP with Dual LED Flash. Talk about Flash Bomb / Paparazzi.

No word yet on connectivity aside from USB-OTG is supported. However, following todays industry standards it should have WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS and HSPA+ data connectivity. It also supports Miracast and MHL for external display.

On software side, it runs the Android KitKat so performance is optimized with the latest Android updates. Comes with 2300mAh Battery.

Overall, the Magnum S packs powerful quality hardware plus KitKat that is ready to take regular user to the next level. It camera features is also a step above expectations (though exaggerated with the MP interpolation)  or to say the very least a Selfie Phone. Pricing is the key here and 9,999 well that's below 10K. Arc Mobile Octa-Core Velocity

Octa-Core ng Bayan? Seems Arc Mobile is to set to claim that title with Velocity.

For only 7,600.00 Pesos!, you get a powerful machine. Sporting 5 inch HD IPS Display powered by 1.7GHz Octa-Core Processor (Mediatek MT6592 / Mali-450GPU) coupled with 1GB RAM and 4GB Internal Storage (expandable via MicroSD), overall this kind of setup of hardware would give and smooth Android and Gaming experience even on Android 4.2.2 Jellybean.

This is a Dual Sim handset that support the regular sized Sim cards. Only WiFi is stated but I am sure it packs Bluetooth and GPS as well as HSPA+ for data.

For its optical features, it packs a 13MP primary back camera with LED Flash. Up front you get 2MP snapper.

Battery is at 2000mAh then again with the dynamics of its hardware, I belive it will last you a day or two depends on your usage.

This is a great move by Arc Mobile introducing Velocity where smartphone market will definitely change after the arrival of Xiaomi. When competition gets stiffer there's is innovation and certainly we will be seeing more quality and powerful products. Velocity with its HD Display, Quality camera and best-of-all Octa-Core is sure to have lead time to be first in the finish line and gain the title Octa-Core ng Bayan.

Spotted: Alcatel OneTouch Idol X+

Idol X+ has risen, Alcatel refreshes its flagship with a Plus.

The new Idol comes with a brand new look with spin-like finish and curved metallic frames. Though I think they was inspired by the iPhone aesthetics.Moving on,  the device carries a 5 inch Full HD IPS Display with Corning Gorilla Glass 2 offering strong, scratch-resistance as well as quality viewing pleasures.

The Plus might refer to added power with added cores as it is powered with Mediatek MT6592 Octa-Core Processor clocked at 2GHz with Mali450-MP4 GPU coupled by 2GB RAM and 16GB/32GB Internal storage (expandable via microSD). Certainly the chipset boost performance and guarantees fluid Android and  smooth gaming experience.

Connectivity features your regular WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS. Does have that higher bandwidth data connectivity with download speed of 42Mbps though upload speed has been redduced to only 5Mbps from 11Mbps of Idol X. Data speed really depends on your service provider even when you pack the advance modem if your network just limits you with up to 2Mbps.

Same old 13MP/2MP combo for its camera features. Does have LED Flash to support the rear camera for low-light conditions.

It packs an 2500mAh battery. It is bigger by 500mAh but it is a non-removable sacrifice.

The Alcatel Idol X+ is just an update on its flagship bring more core and more power and retaining some key qualities like display, connectivity and camera features. One thing that could hurt sale of this phone is pricing which cost 17,550.00, so steep compared to what local brands offer or even to Xiaomi Mi3. It is rather late so I suggest Alcatel should do some cuts or be left out.

Just Released: MyPhone Ocean Elite

MyPhone goes premium with aluminum-clad Ocean Elite. By the look of things, it kinda have that Nexus 4 shinning shimmering back and comes with an aluminum frame. Design-wise, one word, Stunning.

The Device sports a 5 Inch HD IPS OGS Display powered by 1.3GHz Mediatek MT6582 Quad-Core Processor and Mali400-MP2 for graphics coupled with 1GB RAM and ample 16GB of Internal Storage.

For its optics, it packs 13MP primary Camera with Flash and 5MP front.

WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS and HSPA+ data connectivity, the regular candidates for connectivity features plus USB-OTG.
Sensors are as follows: Light Sensor, Proximity Sensor, Magnetic Sensor, Gyroscope Sensor, Gravity Sensor.

Battery is just at 2000mAh. For a 5 inch HD, guess you need a powerbank but if you are not a heavy user then all is well.

At 8,999.00, the price comes with the premium materials used on the Ocean Elite. You do get HD display that is efficiently powered by MT6582 processor. Abundance of Storage space at 16GB but NO microSD Expansion slot but you can always connect your external hard disk or flash drive via USB-OTG. Still runs on Android 4.2 Jellybean, so No KitKat. Camera is interpolated to 13MP and maybe so is the front (processor supports upto 8MP only) but still decent. Overall, I say MyPhone is updating its design for its phones though with Xiaomi here might as well consider shedding price down.

It is available at Kimstore!
