Elephone P9000 Quick Impression and Review Philippines Price Specs

We are done with Elephone P8000 and Elephone S1, now we are going to do a quick impression on Elephone P9000.

Elephone P9000 comes in straight metallic frame and glass front panel accented with antenna lines. There are two colors available for its arc back - Black Sandstone and Glossy White.  The Black Sandstone has great feel to it and does not attract fingerprints compared to glossy white. There is one square capacittive key located upfront which pretty much functions as regular navigation keys - one tap for back double tap for home and long press for app menu. As for ports and buttons, the 3.5mm is located on top; speaker grills and USB Type-C at the bottom; right side power / lock button and volume rocker; left side is the hybrid microSD / Sim card Slot as well as Special Custom button. It sports a 5.5 inch Full LTPS Display which made by LG for immersive viewing pleasure matched with strong audio via its speakers, making the P9000 a great entertainment device. Elephone really does make good-looking, solid and handy smartphones which is imbued by P9000.

From beauty to power, Elephone P9000 carries a new and powerful Mediatek Helio P10 MT6755 64bit Octa-Processor with Mali T860 supplemented with ample memory at 4GB RAM and 32GB Internal Storage. You can expand storage even more though you need to give up one sim slot via its hybrid slot. Suprising enough navigation was smooth and ran every app and multitasking with ease. Scored 45K with Antutu Benchmark. Look here:

Runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box with few added features by Elephone such as motion, gesture controls and among others. Guess that's why runs effortlessly as there are only few apps running on the background. Fingerprint sensor gives you great security as it is your personal touch to unlock your device.

Moving on to Elephone P9000 optics, makes use of Sony IMX 258 sensor for its 13MP rear camera and OmniVision 8858 8MP front camera. Per samples exif it revealed that rear camera has an aperture size of f/2.0 and front at f/2.4 aperture. This is relevant why? because the lower the aperture number the bigger is the camera opening therefore morelight can enter so good for low light photography.

Here are camera samples.

Above we have done a Focus Test, Left Picture focused on the Glass while Right focuses on the background. Laser AF did its job in quickly focus on the subjects. Output is clear even as you zoom in you can see little bits of detail although we wished it as more variance as colors looks bland compared to camera sample taken with P8000.

Per Selfie Test, it has more improved output compared to S1 and P8000. It did'nt come out washout but just grainy but still decent output in low light condition this is due to its f/2.4 aperture. Guess in good lighting condition, we will see improvements in its outputs.

Complete set of connectivity features which includes WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS and NFC. Ultrafast LTE is present for more dependable internet connection. This is a Dual Sim handset via its hybrid slot however like I said before you need to sacrifice if you want Dual Sim Versus Additional Storage with the use of P9000 hybrid slot. Makes use of USB Type-C Port for charging and data which is good as it is future-proof but you do have problems getting accesories as they are limited as of the moment.

Elephone P9000 carries a 3000mAh battery but with its strong internal hardware and connectivvity feature it should last you half a day of moderate use. However you can charge it fast as Elephone supports quick charge via its its USB Type-C port as well as supports wireless charging for no frills and cables seamless charging. Wireless charger will be free for P9000 and will serve as its main charger.

Package includes the Unit, Data Cable, TPU Jelly Case and Sim Ejector. Kinda weird though Elephone did add the wall charger however they did give out a Wireless Charger for free. Oh No Headset included.

Elephone P9000 is a strong contender in the market for its good looks and top quality built, powerful and updated internals and Sony IMX primary camera. Can be considered as versatile performer that can be yours for only 11,499 Pesos. It will be exclusive on sale with Lazada Philippines on April 18, 2016 12nn. Product page follows:

Elephone P8000 Quick Impression and Review Specs Price Philippines

Following our quick impression of Elephone S1, we move up to more of mid-ranger unit Elephone P8000.

Elephone P8000 comes in carbon fiber inspired design metallic frame with arc back. It does have a nice feel to it and better handling as it sits comfortably on the contours of your hand. Antenna line runs through the top and bottom of the frame. Similar buttons location like that of S1 with 3.5mm on top; Power / lock button and volume rocker on right side; MicroUSB port with Microphone Hole on the bottom; Fingerprint Sensor at the back. Elephone P8000 has capacitive navigational keys upfront.

Elephone P8000 Front Back Sides

Houses a 5.5 inch Full HD IPS Display powered by 1.3GHz Mediatek MT6753 64bit Octa-Core Processor with Mali T720 MP3 GPU. As for Memory and Storage, a 2GB RAM and 16GB Internal storage is present. You can add more storage via MicroSD Card slot. Runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop with a few manageable bloatware but at least a cleaner UI. MiraVision is supported to enhance your viewing pleasure. Smooth operation when I handled the device and it scored 38K in Antutu which is higher to some of its competition with similar specs.

Elephone P8000 Antutu

Moving on to optics, we tested its 13MP Rear camera with Samsung Samsung 3L2 Sensor and produced good outputs with clarity and accurate colors eve in low light conditions. Although we were a bit disappointed with front camera even at 5MP which produced washout output. Per checking exif, rear camera has an aperture of f/2.0 while front has a f/2.8, you really do need to be in the light to get better selfies. See here:

Elephone P8000 Camera Samples
Focus Test: Left Focused on the Glass While Right Focused on the Background. Colors Pop as you can see.

Elephone P8000 Camera Samples Selfie
Selfie Test: Washout but temperature control is on point but with small aperture you really need a light source.
Regular connectivity features is available with P8000 like WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS. This is a Dual-Sim Handset and supports LTE data connection. Upon testing the device we discovered USB-OTG is not supported. Hopefully Elephone can activate this feature when they update the phone to Marshmallow as they have promised.

Elephone P8000 main selling point is its huge battery, carrying a whopping 4165mAh which should last you the day (moderate) or half a day of heavy usage. Another selling point is Fingerprint Sensor for a more personal security feature.

If you want more of rugged smartphone with LTE, quality primary camera and long battery life then Elephone P8000 is for you. Such a diversified portfolio Elephone has from budget beauty S1 to Rugged and Heavy Duty P8000. Next on the chopping block P9000.

Price for 7,799 Pesos is due to be on sale on April 18 12nn with Lazada Philippines.

We had recently graced the Official launching of Elephone and we got a chance to play around with their upcoming units.

Elephone S1 Built

Starting of with their budget smartphone, Elephone S1. Comes in metal frame and glass front and back panels exuding premium grade solid built and grand looks which houses its 5 inch HD On-Cell IPS Display. At the top you will find 3.5mm Audio jack while at the bottom is the Micro USB port and Speaker Grill. You will notice lines accent which is actually antenna lines. Right Side lies the power button and volume rocker which resembles that of Xperia aesthetics. The hybrid sim card microSD tray compartment is at the left side. Does not have capacitive keys as it use screen navigation keys. Elephone S1 really looks and feels expensive for a budget smartphone.

Elephone S1 Front Back Sides

For its innards, there is a 1.3GHz Mediatek MT6580 Quad-Core Processor with Mali 400 MP2 GPU coupled with 1GB RAM and 8GB Internal Storage. You could expand its storage via MicroSD card hybrid slot. It scored a decent 23K with Antutu Benchmark, higher compared to some Snapdragon 410 smartphones. It is multi-touch although up to 3 only and has nearly complete sensors. We wished they added additional memory as more RAM are offered by local brands.

Elephone S1 Antutu Sensors

The Elephone S1 is equipped with a 13MP Rear camera with Sony IMX149 sensor and for its front camera is at 2MP with OmniVision Sensor. We took some test shots to see its outputs and get camera details. It revealed that the rear camera hass an aperture size of f/2.0 and front is at f/2.8. Aperture is important as it is the opening of the camera, the lower the aperture, the larger is the opening which means more light can enter therefore better outputs in low light. It focuses well as you can see in the samples. Front camera is just decent but make sure you have enough light source to get better selfies.

Elephone S1 runs on FreeMe OS 5.3 base on Android 5.1 Lollipop more like Miui UI with Apps on the homescreen preinstalled with other value added services and customization. Oh if you don't see the navigation keys just swipe up to reveal it. There's a learning curved to the UI but you will get use to it somehow, in time. Elephone S1 carries a Finger Print sensor for personalize security ensuring only you can open and unlock your phone.

Elephone S1 Freeme OS Android Lollipop

You do get the regular set of connectivity with WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS. Cellular Data is handled by HSPA+ or 3G for internet connectivity on the go. Dual Sim but if you need the additional storage then you need to sacrifice the other sim slot for microSD. USB-OTG is supported by Elephone S1.

Battery is only 1800mAh which should last you hours of moderate use but if you're heavy data or gamer the might bring the charger along or carry a powerbank.

Elephone S1 offers high quality built and classy look match with up-to-date decent internals as well as good optics with its primary camera plus Fingerprint sensor for just a budget price of 3,999 Pesos.

Will expand this article if I can get to review this further.

Elephone presence should threaten local brands as they offer quality and updated hardware and software. More players in the market means competition so better devices and great for consumers. Lets see in couple of months how Elephone will perform.
